A unique collaboration between musicians from Kazakhstan and Drake Music Scotland – the only place you’ll find iPads, Kol-kobyz (traditional Kazakh instrument), alongside violins, cello, flute, clarinet & piano.

The concert features the world premiere of 'Call of the Mountains' by Clare Johnston. This piece is written for a unique ensemble featuring iPads and laptops alongside traditional Kazakh and other more familiar orchestral instruments.

The piece itself is inspired by Almaty, the ancient city on the historic Silk Road, former capital of Kazakhstan. Johnston’s piece explores the juxtaposition between the lively chaos and frantic quality of modern, digital, 24 Hour, sky-scraper filled city and the majestic and timeless mountains that loom right on the city’s doorstep.

Eegeru Ensemble are trailblazers in their use of traditional Kazakh instruments, like the Kol-kobyz and Dombira alongside classical instruments, in a daring twist they will premiere a new work by Scottish-based composer Clare Johnston which broadens the ensemble with cutting-edge technology and digital instruments including iPads performed by Drake Music Scotland’s iPad Lab.

The concert will also feature pieces commissioned by Eegeru Ensemble and a performance of a new work by Digital Orchestra.
