Get up close with an intimate chamber afternoon with Simon Crawford-Phillips on piano, plus some of the SCO’s brilliant principal players, in music to charm, excite and entertain.
Please note: There has been a change to the originally advertised concert. Sadly due to personal reasons, Pekka Kuusisto will no longer be able to take part in this concert, but we are grateful to Principal First Violin Afonso Fesch and Sub-Principal Second Violin Gordon Bragg who will now join us as soloists.
There’s entrancing melody courtesy of Schumann's Fantasiestücke for Violin and piano and Fauré’s exquisite Cello Sonata, plus passion from Clara Schumann’s adventurous Romances, and bustling Parisian energy in Martinů’s rarely-heard sonata. Simon Crawford-Phillips, Maximiliano Martín, and Gordon Bragg bring the concert to an exuberant conclusion with music from Stravinsky’s Faustian parable of a soldier’s struggles with the Devil for his very soul – and his beloved violin.
