During the first half of the eighteenth century, sonatas resounded in all European courts and were written in large numbers by Telemann, Janitsch and Bach, among others.

Belgian-based Musica Gloria performs sonatas in various styles and instrumentations. The name of the programme refers to Janitsch’s melancholic sonata da camera, which he named after the well-known chorale O haupt voll Blut und Wunden (O Sacred Head, now Wounded).
