Travel to the great courts of 17th-century Italy for this concert of early Baroque music. The ‘heavenly’ (Gramophone) ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro and countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński perform songs, arias and instrumental numbers from their recent album Beyond.
Songs include arias by the ‘father of opera’ Claudio Monteverdi and his pupil Francesco Cavalli. Tender love songs by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Francesco Cavalli and Barbara Strozzi also feature. Discover lesser-known vocal and instrumental gems too, including three varied opera arias by the Neapolitan composer Giovanni Cesare Netti.
Il Pomo d’Oro’s instrumentalists will also get the chance to show off their skills in elegant pieces by Biagio Marini, Johann Caspar Kerll, Carlo Pallavicino and the leading Polish Baroque composer Adam Jarzębski.
(BBC Music Magazine)"One of the most brilliant ensembles on the early music stage today."
(The Times)"[Jakub Józef Orliński is] a wonderful artist and a genuine star."
