Members of the Dunedin Consort and the Royal Academy of Music Baroque Soloists join forces for Purcell’s Hail, bright Cecilia, written in 1692 in honour of St Cecilia, patron saint of musicians.

Preceding this famous ode is Sir John Clerk of Penicuik’s cantata, Leo Scotiae irritatus from c.1700. This Cantata for solo soprano and orchestra depicts Scotland’s ambitions (and unsuccessful) venture to set up an empire in Panama.
