Scottish violinist and composer Catriona Price creates cross-genre music, with a focus on making change through cultural exchange and artistic innovation.
Inspired by George Mackay Brown's poetry from her homeland of Orkney, Catriona Price's debut album ‘Hert’ (Orcadian Scots for 'heart') explores the contrasting perspectives that make up the rich tapestry of Orkney life, drawing light upon the non-stereotypical characters - those that may not immediately spring to mind when thinking of a small island community. Featuring a band of nine musicians, ‘Hert’ draws influence from Scottish folk, jazz, pop and Western classical music.
Catriona is half of the contemporary duo Twelfth Day, a member of folk band Fara, Co-Artistic Director of string ensemble Thirteen North, and Artistic Director of Routes to Roots - an organisation creating intercultural collaborations to connect communities. Her debut solo album ‘Hert’ was released to critical acclaim in 2023 with a launch at Celtic Connections and a sold out show at Edinburgh International Festival.
