Songwriter James Yorkston’s gloriously eclectic nights of music and sounds have made a new home at The Queen’s Hall.

For these two very special editions of Tae Sup at The Queen's, we move from our usual cosy performance space to the spectacle of the main Hall.

“I just try and mix things up, keeping the line-ups interesting, not one particular genre or theme to a night… A lot of the people I ask to play are friends who I’ve known for years, or just people I’ve met on the road whose music has taken to me. When programming, I start with Who would I like to see play? and work from there…” (James Yorkston)

SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMERS:

Carl Stone: One of the pioneers of live computer music, hailed by the Village Voice as “the king of sampling” and “one of the best composers living in (the USA) today”. He has used computers in live performance since 1986. Stone was born in Los Angeles and now divides his time between Los Angeles and Japan. He studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney and has composed electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. His works have been performed in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the Near East. In addition to his schedule of performance, composition and touring, he is on the faculty of the Department of Media Engineering at Chukyo University in Japan.

Susan Bear: Her second solo album 'Alter' was written, played, recorded, produced & mixed entirely by Suse in her Glasgow studio. It features the BBC 6Music supported singles 'Mario Golf 2' and 'M6' - a hazy pop gem about reflecting on bad decisions and “observing memories from a safe place (the present)”. Whether as bassist with Poster Paints and The Pastels, keyboardist for Pictish Trail, producer, songwriter with Tuff Love, sound-designer, or something in between, Suse has variously worked with a variety of Scottish artists including Martha Ffion, Karine Polwart, Malcolm Middleton and written music for a variety of Scottish theatre projects and short film whilst writing, producing and releasing music under her own name.

Lomond Campbell: Although his music is grounded in sound, Campbell often incorporates sculpture, engineering, product design and visual art. Using a combination of hardware hacking and industrial manufacturing techniques, Lomond builds his own unique instruments and devices for creating sound which he combines with synthesisers, piano and voice. He lives in the Highlands in a studio he created for himself called 'The Lengths'. Working from here he makes all his machines and music, as well as producing albums for other artists, including Kathryn Joseph’s recent SAY Award shortlisted album ‘for you who are the wronged’. A chequered past has found him working as a linguistics technician, travelling the world as a whisky specialist, winning a BAFTA for a sound installation and working as a builder.
