Band “A.” return to the Voodoo Rooms with their homage to the Associates’ treasured debut album after a sold-out Celtic Connections show in January 2020.
Heralded by their wonderfully wayward cover of Bowie’s ‘Boys Keep Swinging’, legendary Scottish pop mavericks The Associates’ debut album, 'The Affectionate Punch', a playfully audacious aural cocktail laced with punk, cabaret, opera, krautrock and glam, was released in 1980, announcing the unique sound and vision of founding duo Billy Mackenzie (Dundee) and Alan Rankine (Linlithgow). Marking 40 years since this classic and still-influential record, chanteuse Audrey Redpath leads her Band “A.” line-up in likewise affectionate homage.
With Alan Rankine and the Mackenzie family’s blessing Band “A.” have taken on the gargantuan task of re-imagining the album in this live interpretation. Band “A.” - is Audrey Redpath with a highly skilled quartet of musicians - Mike Nolan (Keys), Brian Branford (Bass), Dave Guild (Guitar) and Ali Wilson (Drums).
(Ian Rankin)“Band “A.” reimagining of 'The Affectionate Punch' reminds us of an album, a group, and an era in music that were unique, otherworldly and startling. It’s bravura stuff.”
