Songwriter James Yorkston brings his long standing, eclectic club night from deepest Fife to the heart of Edinburgh.

“With 'Tae Sup wi’ a Fifer', I just try and mix things up, keeping the line-ups interesting, not one particular genre or theme to a night… A lot of the people I ask to play are friends who I’ve nown for years, or just people I’ve met on the road whose music has taken to me. It’s a’ braw though, and when programming Tae Sup, I start with Who would I like to see play? and work from there…” (James Yorkston)

These are intimate, multi-act shows, opening with a few songs by James Yorkston and hosted in the snug of The Queen's Hall's new performance space.

Special guest performers:

Burd Ellen: A project featuring Debbie Armour (Alasdair Roberts, Green Ribbons) and Gayle Brogan (Pefkin, Electroscope). The group uses traditional song to explore and evoke dark landscapes and deep stories.

Jamie Sutherland: Lead singer of Edinburgh’s Broken Records (4ad, JSharp Records). In 2020 he released his debut solo album, 'Bruise'. Likened to John Prine, Mike Scott of The Waterboys, Bill Fay & Tim Buckley, his style is an unselfconscious love affair of classic 60’s and 70’s song writing.

Kathryn Williams & Withered Hand: Mercury Prize-nominated songwriter Williams' career spans 11 albums under her own name alongside various collaborations and side projects. Her writing is inspired by the greats from Nick Drake to Joni Mitchell, though she rarely confines herself to one genre. Withered Hand is the songwriting output of Edinburgh-based Dan Willson, a cult figure in the Scottish music scene since 2009, Dan has released two widely acclaimed albums, New Gods (2014) and Good News (2009), several lo-fi EPs and has toured internationally, both solo and with his band, and with the likes of King Creosote, Kris Drever, Scott Hutchison/Frightened Rabbit.
