DEC 2017: BOARD MEMBER RECRUITMENT

Would you like to join the Board of The Queen’s Hall? Board members are responsible for agreeing the organisation’s vision, values and action plan going forward. 

The Queen’s Hall Board meets six times a year and supports our Chief Executive and senior management. Applicants with a wide range of skills and from any background are encouraged.

Board members are volunteers, although travel expenses will be paid. 

We host over 180 folk, classical, jazz & blues, rock & pop, and comedy events each year, as well as providing rehearsal space and undertaking education and outreach work.  

We have 9 full-time and 8 part-time staff.

Our main sources of funding are hall hire & ticket sales (52%), our bar (30%), Council grant (11%) and generous benefactors (7%).  We also get various one -off donations, ranging from £500 to £100,000 (for our new Steinway piano).

We are currently planning and implementing a phased redevelopment of our ‘A’ listed building and are planning a celebratory programme for our 40th anniversary in 2019. 

Board members are appointed for 3 years and their responsibilities include:

  • Attending 6 meetings per year (travel expenses paid)
  • Actively participating in the strategic direction and overall governance of the organisation
  • Overseeing financial planning
  • Supporting the Chief Executive and The Queen's Hall staff
  • Acting as our ambassadors and advocates, including attending evening events at The Queen’s Hall and speaking to supporters and funders.
  • Meeting the standards and requirements expected of a charitable trustee

We have various Board working groups which individual Board members participate in; these include: 

  • Finance & Fundraising 
  • Promoting Concerts and Events
  • Building Works and Strategic Planning
